Special Announcement March 17th

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns. (Psalm 46: 1-5)

Greetings Epworth Church,

Friends, in the midst of these troubling days cling to this truth, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  Our leadership team met (over the phone) on Monday night and agreed that our church building will be closed for all gatherings, including Sunday morning worship.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now advising against gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks and cancelling gatherings of more than 10 people for organizations that serve higher-risk populations in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The good news is, we are not the church because we gather every Sunday morning for worship; we are the church because we carry the light of Christ with us wherever we go.  This Sunday morning we will be offering an opportunity to worship on-line and over the phone.  More details will go out this week to get connected to our service. It will be streamed on our Epworth Facebook page and through Zoom, an online meeting site.  Zoom allows for people to call in on a telephone to hear the message with or without the use of a computer.  We will be experimenting with Zoom for our Bible Studies, meetings, and having some community prayer opportunities.  Also, you do not need to have a Facebook account to view our facebook videos.

In the meantime, pray without ceasing for those who are sick, those in our community at high-risk, leadership,  our emergency personnel and necessary workers who are putting themselves at risk to serve our community, our medical professionals, grocery store workers, and other essential employees.  Pray for our children and youth and their parents who are juggling working at home with school.  Pray for families who are separated during this quarantine, especially those at long term care facilities. Remember God is in the midst of the city and is our refuge and strength.

Check your email, our Epworth Facebook page, and church website often to receive updates and instruction on how to connect to our service this weekend.  Our church voicemail and email will be checked often so please contact us with any questions or pastoral care concerns.  Please check in on your neighbors and those who are not as connected to a computer.  We are uncertain as to when we will gather again in our sanctuary together but “we will not fear… God is in the midst of the city.”

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Nina
