In a letter to the Church at Philippi, Paul wrote, “I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me…” (Phil 1: 3-7, NRSV)
I am so looking forward to returning to Epworth as your pastor this summer. This appointment feels more like a homecoming as Epworth was the place that affirmed my call to ministry and gave me opportunities to grow and learn. It was within the Epworth community that my call to ministry was affirmed through opportunities to preach and teach, serve as a worship assistant, and assist with the Epworth Youth Group. I preached my very first sermon at Epworth in July of 2010 as an undergraduate student at Moravian College. You have been formative throughout my call to ministry and it is with great joy that I return as your pastor.
Following my graduation from Drew Theological Seminary in 2014, I was appointed as pastor at Wooddale United Methodist Church in East Stroudsburg. For the past five years I have grown in ministry and love the work God has called me to. I especially enjoy preaching and teaching and working with the children and youth of our community. This June I will be ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church.
Scott and I were married in 2013 and we were blessed to welcome our son, Luke, into our family in 2016. Scott serves as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at East Stroudsburg University and enjoys kayaking. Luke is 2 and loves all kinds of trucks, especially garbage trucks. As a family we love to spend time outdoors and visit our families who live in Pottsville.
We look forward to seeing you very soon and getting reacquainted with the Epworth Church family. You have always remained in my prayers and I am so excited to see the good works God will continue to do at Epworth as we serve together.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Nina Patton-Semerod
Epworth Bell Choir
Our church is fortunate to have handbells and chimes. Our newly formed Hand Bell Choir will meet each Tuesday at 4:00 pm in Fellowship Hall, Epworth United Methodist Church, 3245 Oakland Road, Bethlehem. No – you do not have read music to ring bells. The music we use is marked with the bell’s note! The plan is to play in the 10:45 am church service occasionally. If Tuesdays at 4:00 pm is not good for you, please let Marilyn Bass know (484-281-3215 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The hope is to take our bell ringing choir out to life care centers twice a year. If you know of someone outside the church family who would like to join us, please invite them to come along! If you have questions, please contact Marilyn.
